Taco Bell!

Taco Bell came to Panama!  Actually I heard that there is a TB some place far from us and well without a car it’s hard to find those places, so needless to say we were stoked to find a Taco Bell in the mall by our house!  It had been under construction for months and finally this time when James and I checked the status it was “abierto” (open)!  Click the more tab to see a little video about the awesome experience =)

Flat Stanley in Panama

My friend Heather is doing the Flat Stanley project with her 2nd graders at West Portal Lutheran school in San Francisco, CA and asked me to take a Stanley around Panama.  This is what we did

Perusing Peru

Peru, that strange mysterious country which ever since childhood carries with it that air of mystery and adventure, home of the Inca, the towering Andes and the steamy Amazon… well I finally got there.

The Block M

I was in the mall the other day and I saw this.  Yes, it says “Michigan.”

from a distance

I’ve noticed something in the last couple weeks after observing and listening to conversations about the church and it’s state here.  I have also noticed something about other churches here of other denominations.  And this is what I have noticed; that the people here have very much taken ahold of the denomination’s origin of culture. [...]

Mi Universo

October and November are months where it rains a lot here. Rain here is somewhat like snow in the Midwest, just a little bit can cause a lot of trouble. Well last Tuesday for one of my English classes it rained mucho! Most of the students stayed home as they walk to class. [...]

More Bibles

Last night I was able to give three more Bibles to my students in my other class in Balboa (near our house).  We translated John 2 from Spanish to English and then corrected our work and read aloud the story in English with the Bilingual Bibles.  The students were so excited!  It’s somewhat like a [...]

¡Canta!

Last night our friends Jerona and Mack invited us to a concert the were apart of.  They work in the regional office with us doing everything under the sun.  They are apart of the Primer Iglesia Bautista Kuna (Kuna Baptist Church) and this week a group from New Mexico came and did workshops on music [...]

A BIG Thanks!

Last night I had my class in Los Andes.  It was a very special night as I gave out the Bilingual Bibles that my home congregation VBS raised pennies for! For a lot of the classes we study different passages and look over different verses in the Bible.  Normally I print off the English version [...]

Confirmed!

This last Sunday was a very special day at for the Lutherna church here in Panama as my friend was confirned and became a member of the Lutheran church of Panama.
Rachel is in my English classes and is now teaching English herself twice a  week to kids who come to the church.  She has quickly [...]

Back to our visits…

la verdad absoluta

Yesterday marked the first day of English class in Los Andes since we took our break at the beginning of September.
I was very excited to return, yet I was hesitant in thinking how many would show up. Everyone was called about the class starting again but once you get out of a routine it can [...]

The Soul of the Missionary

Yesterday was the last Sunday that Pastor Martinho will be in Sora serving as the Pastor.  Pastor Martinho is from Brazil and was called by the national church of Panama to serve Emanuel Lutheran Church in Sora four years ago.  He recently received a call from Brazil that he accepted.
The remaining four congregations here canceled [...]

regresamos

…and we’re back!
These last few weeks James and I had the opportunity to go back home to the States as September marks our one year being on the field here in Panama.
Going home was amazing.  We missed our family and friends so much and being able to be in the same room with them was [...]

Alvis

Today was our friend Alvis’s confirmation.  Alvis has been attending the church here in Balboa for about three years and today he became an official member of the Lutheran Church of Panama!  Please pray for Alvis as he continues his walk with the Lord.

A Bible

So lately I have been blessed to hear a lot of encouraging stories from the States, so here comes my second Stateside story.
My friend Heather received a call as a Lutheran Elementary school teacher last year to San Francisco, CA. After much prayer Heather accepted the call and packed up her car and pod thing [...]

semana tipica

It occurred to me after talking with James’ dad last night that we don’t really talk much about our personal work here in Panama. A lot of times it’s not too attractive or romantic so we often feel it’s not blog worthy, but in reality it is.  So I thought I would take this post [...]

High and Dry

You’d think living in a tropical country surrounded almost entirely by coastline and touching the warm tropical waters of both the Caribbean and the Pacific, that I would have been to the beach more than three times in our year here, but you would be wrong. Unfortunately for us the beaches worth swimming at tend [...]

big feet

I’ve had the hardest time trying to find suitable shoes here in Panama.  I have gone through pairs of sandals like no one’s business.  I thought to myself well I will save up my money and purchase a nice pair of sandals that will last forever.  Well forever was 2 months.  Then I thought, crocs [...]

The Trip

“Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.” Hebrews 11:1
I’ve recently been struck with many opportunities to fully put my faith in what I hope for and with what I am very certain of I what I believe, but to be honest I had no [...]
